Kinesio Taping

Kinesio Tape for Physical Therapy
Kinesio Taping is a treatment method that was invented nearly forty years ago. It offers support and stability to joints and muscles while improving circulation and range of motion. Kinesio taping involves the use of a specilaized tape, applied by a trained therapist in order to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused tired muscles, and to support muscles in movement on a 24hr/day basis. It is non-restrictive type of taping which allows for full range of motion as opposed to conventional "athletic taping" which is used solely to stabilize a joint and can restrict the flow of body fluids.

The underlying science on Kinesio taping is that it recognizes the important role that muscles play in supporting the circulation of venous and lymph flows, body temperature and more. If muscles are not functioning properly a number of physical ailments can arise . . . or be hindered from healing. Our Kinesio Taping recognizes the body's own natural healing process and facilitates the healing process.

Graston Technique

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization or ISTM
The Graston Technique is a physical therapy method for diagnosing and treating disorders of the skeletal muscles and related connective tissues. The Graston Technique is proprietary meaning that practitioners must be licensed in order to use the technique and patented instruments. This technique appropriate for post-operative tendon repairs, sports injuries, and other conditions where there is a need to be concerned with postural or ergonomic difficulties. The Graston Technique utilizes "instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization" (ISTM), whereby specially designed stainless steel instruments are used to better manipulate the affected area. A very simplistic description would be using a medical tool to administer a very concentrated massage on a troubled area of the body.

The Graston Technique typically delivers a high rate of success in resolving musculoskeletal conditions. The ISTM treatment may be coupled with additional rehabilitative exercises that promote flexibility and strength. A typical treatment program will run the course of several weeks to a few months.

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy

Vestibular Rehab or VRT
Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy, also known as "balance rehabilitation", is an exercise-based therapy designed to promote central nervous system compensation for inner ear problems. Vestibular compensation allows the patient's brain to adapt to a new manner of receiving input to control equilibrium and motion difficulties. Typical VRT exercises include standing heel-to-toe, walking with the head moving back and forth, combining these activities with eyes closed, or on spongy surfaces. VRT is often so successful that no other treatments are required.

A physical therapist (PT) will first perform a thorough evaluation that begins with a medical history and includes observing and measuring posture, balance and gait, and compensatory strategies. The assessment may also include eye-head coordination tests that measure how well a person’s eyes track a moving object with or without head movement. Other assessments may be used, such as a questionnaire measuring the frequency and severity of symptoms and associated lifestyle changes. In most cases, if the exercises are correctly and faithfully performed, balance will improve over time. The results mean that muscle tension, headaches, and fatigue will diminish, and symptoms of dizziness, vertigo, and nausea will decrease or disappear.

Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy Treatments
Manual Physical Therapy is a specialized form of treatment which is provided with human hands instead of machines, devices or instruments. Manual therapy allows a skilled physical therapist to have direct contact with the affected area and therefore be able to make fine adjustments to pressure, direction and overall contact. While manual therapy may sound like a massage, it is more clinical in that the focus is on resolving a physical ailment that goes beyond simple muscle tightness from stress. For example, in manual therapy the therapist may work on both soft tissue as well as manipulate joints in order to resolve all underlying problems.

Manual physical therapy addresses mobility issues in joints, reducing muscle tension, and improving overall flexibility in the affected area. Manual therapy is often a perfect solution to overuse, chronic pain and poor posture from soft tissue injuries such as a strain, muscle spasms or hyper-extended muscles. Manual therapy is typically of minor discomfort to the patient and yields positive results rather quickly.

Your Physical Therapy

The Purpose Of Therapy

The purpose of physical therapy treatments is to restore, maintain and enhance optimal physical function and mobility. Physical therapy treatments are individualized programs that are designed according to a patients condition. Treatments typically address recovering from an existing injury, preventing the advancement of physical limitations, minimizing mobility restrictions, or resolving disabilities caused by accidents, sports, occupational related injuries, diseases or other life conditions.

Personalized Treatments

The type and duration of your physical therapy services will depend upon your particular situation. The severity of your condition, and other factors such as age and general health, will be factors in the overall success of your treatments.

Upon completion of your initial visit your physical therapist should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect from your customized physical therapy program. In every case, the manner of treatment is customized for the individual patient. The treatments are then managed with personalized care by a dedicated physical therapist.
